Marty Aron and the Missions Committee sponsored a really nice lunch last Tuesday -- moved up a day to get in ahead of the ice & snow -- in which we were able to enjoy time with David and Lori Persons, UM missionaries to Congo. (Click here for the Mulungwishi Station web page.)
The Persons are both second generation missionaries to Africa and we have a long standing relationship with their family, going back to Lori's father Woody Bartlett who was sponsored by Pattillo UMC.
It was neat to hear of the growth of Christianity and the United Methodist Church in Africa. David Persons shared how often pastors will serve multiple congregations, traveling between them by bicycle! (My first full time appointment was also to three congregations, but at least I had a car!)
The Persons are retiring from their position with the General Board of Global Ministries, but will continue to be active serving with UMVIM (United Methodists Volunteers in Mission). Click here to see some wonderful pictures from their ministry in the Congo. May the Lord bless them and continue to make them a blessing!
Grace & Peace,
PS Special thanks to Marty and Bruce Aron for hosting the Persons for the week!
