July 14, 2014 God continues to bless us in amazing ways at Avondale Pattello UMC. We have had great attendance through the summer, with superb worship services, Sunday school classes, and small group meetings (Bible Study, UMW, PrayerForce, etc.) Just a couple events I would like to highlight.
On July 4th our church participated in the yearly Avondale Estates 4th of July Parade. Upcoming High School senior Ben Cannon was our driver -- on AJ Cannon's old John Deere Tractor. Thank you to all the decorators, those who road and waved, who road alongside us on bicycles, and to those who walked and passed out candy and water. A good time was had by all. :-) Special thanks to Tom Watson and Larry Cannon for organizing our team. Our little float also won the second place! There are many thoughts about next year’s float -- more water, candy, bubble machine, pony, etc. The consensus was that it was fun, good community support, and we can't wait to do it again!
Speaking of community support, on Sunday July 13 we had over 20 volunteers help with the smart lunch / smart kids program. This is a ministry organized by Action Ministries, where sack lunches are provided kids during the summer -- kids who normally would count on the school to provide them lunches. We made 305 sack lunches, Bob Durfield & Paul Mathis brought them over to the distribution center on Monday morning. Thank you all for the hard work -- special thanks to Michelle Cheek for leadership in this ministry. See picture below, as well as Carolyn Chandlers pictures here.
We have a wonderful energetic joyful congregation, and it is a joy to be serve God with you all,
