We will be celebrating Ash Wednesday at 12 pm & 7 pm on March 5.
One question that sometimes comes us is, "Isn't Ash Wednesday a Catholic service?" Yes, I believe Ash Wednesday is celebrated in the Roman Catholic tradition. It is also celebrated in the Methodist tradition. Just think for a minute about our history. The original name for the Methodist Church in America was the Methodist Episcopal Church. "Episcopal" was the name of the American branch of the Anglican Church. Methodism was founded by the Reverend John Wesley, who was and who remained an Anglican priest. The Anglicans are also called Anglo-Catholics or English Catholics. Ash Wednesday is Catholic, Anglican, and, via Wesley, part of Methodist DNA.
But even if it wasn't part of our tradition, it is still a great service. I hope everyone can join us.
Grace and peace,
